meditation is mandatory

My core practice of soul wellness, meditation is mandatory.

Quieting your thoughts for a chance to receive information from your higher self, meditation is the path to radical self love. Insights and messages will show up differently for everyone and can provide a glimpse into what is needed for healing.

Your vision will become clear only when you look into your heart. Who looks outside, dreams. Who looks inside, awakens.
— Carl Jung

I started my meditation practice in 2015. I felt like I was in survival mode most of my life and then in full on crisis mode that started in 2014. I was dealing with addiction within my family, and working in a field that heard, witnessed, and supported victims of sexual violence. The focus of my life left me plagued with anxiety and with a cloud of depression, that I couldn’t even admit was there. Most of the time it was more comfortable to deny that anything was wrong at all. I used the combination of work, food, alcohol and isolation to cope; and in 2015 discovered a little meditation could lead to a whole lot of healing.

When I began to practice meditation it was difficult to focus. I couldn’t sit quiet longer than 5 minutes, and that entire 5 minutes was spent reminding myself to return to my breath while trying to stop my thoughts from racing uncontrollably. But as I did find the opportunity to quiet those thoughts and slowly become aware of my emotions I was presented with messages about healing.

I found connection with my higher self, my inner child, my spirit guides. I felt it a very powerful tool to remembering who I was at the soul level, no one else’s voice- just mine.

Ritual is meditation expressed in action.
— Dion Fortune

In meditation it is important to start with simple exercises to establish a practice. Creating a place that you can sit still in silence will train your brain to focus and center. While relaxation offers temporary relief from stress, meditation aims to achieve both relaxation of the body and a heightened state of awareness. Meditation can give us a heightened sensitivity to our inner voice and transcend our physical perception.

People come to meditation for different reasons. I encourage you to research this practice and use your intuition to lean in to it as a ritual. Meditation has provided deeply healing benefits to my life. The insights I received during these sessions felt like they were directly aligned with my soul. It was the magic to my soul wellness.
